HC Deb 21 October 1975 vol 898 c101W
28. Mr. Willey

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will make a statement on the steps taken to deal with the problem of unemployment in Sunderland.

Mr. John Fraser

The measures announced on 24th September were designed to mitigate the worst effects of unemployment in all parts of Great Britain. These measures included a grant of £30 million to the Manpower Services Commission to establish a job creation scheme; Sunderland has already benefited from this scheme with the establishment yesterday of a job creation project, sponsored by the Sunderland Borough Council, employing 25 people, mostly young people, who will be engaged on clearing and improving the foreshore.
