HC Deb 21 October 1975 vol 898 cc141-2W
Mr. Atkinson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list the number of prisoners held at Pentonville and other prisons awaiting deportation for each of the past 12 months; how many of these prisoners were recommended for deportation by the courts; how many submitted appeals and how many succeeded; and what was the minimum, average and maximum periods of detention in prison.

Mr. Alexander W. Lyon

Information in this form could be provided only at disproportionate cost. The number of persons who on 16th October 1975 were detained in prison by reason only of their being considered for deportation or pending removal under deportation orders was 82, of whom 79 had been recommended for deportation by a court. All have a right of appeal which some have exercised.
