asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has any proposals to assist purchasers of newly-built properties where the developer became bankrupt prior to completion and the liquidator refuses to honour outstanding contracts.

I am not aware of a general problem here, but if the hon. Member cares to let me have details I will gladly consider them.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is satisfied that the NHBC provides adequate protection for purchasers of new privately-built houses.

Yes. The adequacy of the National House-Building Council's scheme is of course kept regularly under review.
