HC Deb 11 November 1975 vol 899 c577W
Mr. Cope

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what measures proposed by the Forestry Commission to increase the outlets for elm timber have been approved by Ministers.

Mr. Strang

The Forestry Commission is actively pursuing consultations with the timber trade, Government Departments and nationalised industries, aimed at increasing the market for elm through encouraging its substitution for other timber. In conjunction with the Princes Risborough Laboratory of the Department of the Environment, a new publication is in preparation to draw attention to the possible uses of this high quality native hardwood. The commission is also making available on request local advice on marketing and storage, including possible storage sites on commission land.
