HC Deb 07 March 1975 vol 887 c515W
Mr. Boardman

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what are the average wage rates and earnings of adult males covered by the Wages Councils Act, and the average wage rates and earnings of adult males in industry generally.

Mr. Harold Walker

The most recent New Earnings Survey showed that in April 1974 the average gross weekly earnings of full-time male employees aged 21 and over who are within scope of wages councils and whose pay for the survey pay-period was not affected by absence were about £40.10. The corresponding estimate for all industries and services of employees was £47.70. General averages of wage rates for broad groups of employees cannot be compiled from the information available to my Department.
