§ Mr. Harold WalkerI am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that an estimated total of 5,808 people will be covered by schemes, to run for three years, operated by the Construction Industry Training Board for which assistance from the European Social Fund Budget has been approved. The schemes cover the training and retraining of unemployed and under-employed young persons from Scotland, North and North-West England and Wales and the retraining of young unemployed graduates in chemical and mechanical engineering, geology and physics as civil engineers. The grant from the European Social Fund Budget for 1974 was £118,975.

§ Mr. Harold WalkerI am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that 128,280 people were covered by the Footwear, Leather and Furskin Industrial Training Board at October 1974. No grant from the Social Fund Budget was made to the Board in 1974, but in December 1974 the Commission of the European Communities approved a grant of £281,085 for the training of unemployed young people; unemployed training officers; unemployed or under-employed people as surgical shoe workers; and disabled persons; and for the training and installation of unemployed persons as group training officers. The grant will be made from the 1975 budget.

An item for the training of training officers was included in the board's application and covered by the grant, but no specific allocation was made for this purpose.
