HC Deb 30 June 1975 vol 894 c325W
Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many mail bus services are operating in the Western Isles; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. William Ross

Four postbus services are at present operated by the Post Office Corporation in the Western Isles:

  • Lochmaddy —Benbecula Airport.
  • Lochmaddy—Sollas and Newton Ferry.
  • Lochmaddy—Tigharry.
  • Castlebay—Eoligarry and Northbay Airport.

I understand that some additional services may be feasible. This is, however, a matter for the Post Office to decide in consultation with the Islands Council which has a responsibility for planning and co-ordinating public transport in its area.
