HC Deb 30 June 1975 vol 894 cc324-5W
Mr. Russell Johnston

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will take steps to increase the efficacy of antismoking campaigns in Scotland in the light of the findings published in the Scottish Home and Health Department's recent report.

Mr. William Ross

Awareness of the health hazards of smoking is already widespread, though often not acted upon. Publicity against the habit forms the largest single component of the Scottish Health Education Unit's budget. The effectiveness of such measures is subject to continuing appraisal and review, and this has led to special emphasis now being directed towards selected groups such as expectant mothers and parents of young children. Further measures which might help to discourage smoking are under consideration.
