HL Deb 27 February 1975 vol 357 c1080WA
Lord ROCHESTER

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the number of operatives and the percentage of all operatives in manufacturing industries who are at present working on a short-time basis; i.e. for less than the number of days constituting their normal working week.

Lord JACQUES

It is estimated that in the week ended 14th December 1974, about 72,000 operatives, or about 1.3 per cent. of all operatives, in manufacturing industries in Great Britain were on short-time. Of these, about 64,000 were working only part of the week and about 8,000 were stood off for the whole week.
