HC Deb 05 December 1975 vol 901 cc398-9W
50. Mr. David Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what action he proposes to take to alleviate the difficulties facing the small business sector at the present time.

Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

The needs of small businesses are kept under constant review, but I do not have any specific proposals to make at this time. The major problems facing small firms stem from inflation, and our measures to deal with this will be of great assistance to the sector.

Mr. Steen

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what Government grants are available for small businesses seeking to establish factories or offices on Merseyside.

Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

There are no special grants for small businesses, but in a special development area such as Merseyside the full range of incentives is available. The regional Small Firms Information Centre in Manchester is ready to help with advice.
