Mr. Newensasked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will seek to enter into discussions with all foreign-based multinational vehicle manufacturing companies with the aim of ascertaining their intentions and policies on the development of new models and the production of vehicles and vehicle components in plants situated in Great Britain.
§ Mr. VarleyI have had meetings with the senior managements of Ford and Vauxhall in the last month and the House will be aware of the meetings I have had recently with Chrysler. There are also regular meetings between senior officials and these companies which cover these and other subjects.
