§ 20. Sir John Hallasked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the number of employees in private industry, the nationalised industries and in Government services who have received the maximum of £6 per week increase since that limit was introduced; and how many have received less than the £6 limit.
§ Mr. BoothOf some 2 million workers covered by major settlements known to my Department since 1st August the full £6 increase or its equivalent for juveniles and part-timers has been obtained by some 300,000 in the private sector, 50,000 in nationalised industries, and 1,400,000 in the public services, including nearly 1 million local authority manual workers. Some 200,000 have obtained smaller increases, all in the private sector. Apart from this, some ¾ million workers, mostly in the private sector, are covered by Wages Council proposals for increases in statutory minimum remuneration of £6 or nearly £6 and 500 workers by proposals for smaller increases.
§ 36. Mr. Goldingasked the Secretary of State for Employment how many breaches of the £6 wage limit have been notified to him.
§ Mr. BoothNo certificates have been issued to the Price Commission in respect of breaches of the policy. Out of about 1,000 settlements so far examined by my Department there have been apparent breaches of the policy in a few cases Apart from two cases, which are still under consideration, these have all been modified to bring the settlement into line with the policy.
