HC Deb 02 December 1975 vol 901 cc508-9W
23. Mr. Madel

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether his Department has done any research into the causes of the industrial disputes, and, if so, whether he will publish such research; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Booth

The Department has been analysing in more detail the characteristics of industrial stoppages. It is intended to publish some results shortly in the Department of Employment Gazette and this will include information on the causes of stoppages as indicated by the reasons that are given for the stoppage.

38. Mr. Adley

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will seek powers to prevent one party to an industrial dispute sequestrating the property of private citizens in furtherance of their ends in the said dispute.

Mr. Booth

No. Private citizens may take actions in tort to recover property of which they are temporarily deprived by an industrial dispute. Further legal remedies would be superflous.
