HC Deb 26 November 1974 vol 882 cc141-2W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has received from the Herring Industry Board about current arrangements for herring quotas; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. William Ross

The Herring Industry Board has submitted its views on the management of the North Sea and the West Coast herring quotas. The arrangements for the North Sea took account as far as possible of the board's views, and its views on the West Coast, together with those of the industry, will be discussed at a meeting to be arranged shortly.

Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has received from the Scottish Fishermen's Federation about fisheries limits and herring quotas; and what replies he has sent.

Mr. William Ross

I have recently received letters from the Scottish Fishermen's Federation dealing with these questions. I am studying the points made by the federation and I hope to reply to them shortly. I will send a copy of my reply to my hon. Friend.

Mrs. Winifred Ewing

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has received from the Scottish Fishermen's Federation regarding the herring fishing quota in the North Sea in the last month; what answer he has given; what visits or meetings he has arranged or agreed to attend with representatives of the federation; and what action he proposes to take.

Mr. William Ross

I have recently received a letter from the Scottish Fishermen's Federation which mentioned herring fishing quotas in the North Sea and off the Scottish West Coast as well as other matters. I am studying the points made by the federation and I will send a copy of my reply to the hon. Member.
