HC Deb 22 November 1974 vol 881 cc551-2W
Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the total amount of allowances for travel and subsistence, respectively, paid to Northern Ireland Office civil servants during the last financial year.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

The total amount of allowances for travel and subsistence in the financial year 1973–74 was £177,917. These allowances cover all the extra expenses incurred by officers who travel on official duty, or who are posted away from their normal place of work. It is not practical to provide figures showing travel and subsistence allowances separately. The total includes, for the last quarter of the financial year, the allowances paid to Northern Ireland civil servants who were seconded to NIO from the former NI Ministry of Home Affairs for administrative duty on law and order and protective services, which became reserved to the Secretary of State from 1st January 1974.
