§ Mr. Alexander W. LyonIn the eight years from 1965 to 1972 13,059 Commonwealth citizens admitted as students had their conditions of stay revoked and were allowed to remain here. Owing to a400W change in the statistics maintained, this information is not available for the period since 1st January 1973, nor is it available for foreign nationals. The largest category of those who were allowed to stay was nursing students.
§ Mr. McCrindleasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what provisions exist to check with colleges, hospitals and other education institutions that persons admitted to the United Kingdom as students actually carry out their studies.
§ Mr. Alexander W. LyonThe Immigration Rules (HC 80 and HC 82) require students seeking extensions of stay to produce evidence of enrolment for a full time course of study, of regular attendance and of the possession of adequate funds. A direct check is made with the institution whenever the need for this is apparent.
