asked the Secretary of State for Industry what plans he has to utilise the funds allotted to his Department by the Chancellor of the Exchequer in his recent announcement of public sector spending to sustain activity and employment in the building industry.

£6 million of the sum allocated to the Department by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer on 11th September will be devoted to the building of new advance factories and to increasing the size of some of those announced in September this year. A further £2 million is to be spent on modernisation and site development and other works, and £1 million on acquiring land for further programmes of factories. The new factories will be constructed on land already in the Department's possession in order to provide work quickly for the construction industry.

This programme will be additional to the normal programme of advance factory building. As a result, it is planned that the total building of advance factories in the coming year will be twice the normal size. The list of sites and sizes is as follows:
