§ 17. Mr. McCrindleasked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if she will propose extending the Consumer Credit Act to require an agency selling information about an individual to inform the person that this is being done.
Mr. Alan WilliamsNo. The Consumer Credit Act, when made effective, will give consumers a right to be told on request the name of any credit reference agency consulted about them. They will also have a right to know what the agency has on file, a right to have false information rectified and a right to have such revisions notified to anyone who had been given the wrong information in the previous six months. These rights will be publicised.
