HC Deb 26 March 1974 vol 871 c114W
Mr. Alexander Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how the cuts in education expenditure will affect school building and renovation and existing school building in Lanarkshire; and if he will give details of each cut-back.

Mr. William Ross

Building starts generally were held up for three months by the rephasing of programmes announced by the last Government in October. The main school building programme and the programmes for special schools and minor works were not affected by the economies in expenditure announced by the last Government in December. But the unstarted balance—£0.6 million—of the primary school improvement programme was further deferred, part until after the end of this month and part until after the end of June; and the start of the authority's £1.1 million nursery education building programme for 1974–75 was deferred from 1st April to 1st October.
