Mrs. Fenner

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the patient-general practitioner ratio in the South-East.

Dr. Owen

The latest available estimate for the South-East Region—at 1st October 1973—is 2,339 patients per general practitioner.

Mrs. Fenner

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the patient—general practitioner ratio in the Medway area.

Dr. Owen

Ratios in practice areas are estimated, at 1st January 1974, as follows:

Patients per General Practitioner
Chatham Borough 2,624
Gillingham town 2,661
Rainham and West Swale 2,565
Rochester Borough 2,989

Two more doctors may shortly set up in practice in Chatham, and one more in Rochester. If so, the average lists in these areas will fall to approximately 2,420 and 2,850 respectively.
