HC Deb 18 March 1974 vol 870 cc48-9W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on progress being made on the experiment to cap the Kames Colliery shaft as a measure to prevent further pollution of the River Ayr.

Mr. William Ross

The possibility of preventing further pollution of the River Ayr by capping the two disused shafts at the former Kames Colliery is still being investigated by Ayr County Council, which is currently assessing new information about the construction of these shafts. Should the present investigations prove unfruitful, alternatives will be explored. Close contact is being maintained with the local authority and the river purification board.
