§ Mr. Mudd
asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what are respectively and according to engine cubic capacity the hospital car service mileage allowances for Cornwall and London; and whether she will consider increasing these allowances in the light of increased fuel costs.

These allowances do not become my Department's responsibility until after 1st April but I understand the rates effective from February 1974 are:—

Cornwall pence per mile London pence per mile

For cars of up to 1399cc engine capacity 5.85 6.5

For cars of over 1399cc engine capacity 6.35 7.0

and that these take account of the recent increases in fuel prices.
