HC Deb 12 June 1974 vol 874 c552W
50. Sir John Hall

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if water resources of England and Wales are adequate to meet the estimated doubling of demand for public water supplies from 14 million cubic meters a day in 1971 to 28 million cubic meters a day in 2001.

Mr. Denis Howell

The Water Resources Board, in its report "Water Resources in England and Wales", estimated a total deficiency of 12.1 million cubic meters a day in public water supplies from existing and authorized sources in the year 2001. The report examines a number of strategies which would enable this deficiency to be met. These are being considered by the National Water Council and the new water authorities.
