HC Deb 12 June 1974 vol 874 c566W
Mr. Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if, in the light of recent events in Angola, he will raise in the Security Council threats to international peace in Southern Africa arising from the continued occupation of Namibia by South African forces.

Miss Joan Lestor

Our policy towards Southern Africa, including Namibia, is at present under review. It is too early, therefore, to say whether we shall raise the question of Namibia at the United Nations.

Mr. Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if Her Majesty's Government will now accept the advisory opinion of the International Court on the illegality of the continued occupation of Namibia by South Africa.

Miss Joan Lestor

This matter is still under review. My hon. Friend will understand that it involves legal and other considerations of considerable complexity.
