HC Deb 10 June 1974 vol 874 c475W
Mr. Michael Latham

asked the Prime Minister if he will specify the respective responsibilities of the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection and the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in relation to the subsidisation of cheese; and whether he is satisfied with the co-ordination between the two Departments in this matter.

The Prime Minister

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection has responsibility for the general policy on this matter and in particular determines the rate and coverage of the sudsidy, and the method and conditions of payment. She is also responsible for monitoring the effect of the subsidy on prices. My right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food advises on relevant supply and trade considerations, and undertakes the administration of the subsidy on an agency basis. I am satisfied that these arrangements are operating effectively.
