HC Deb 31 July 1974 vol 878 cc318-9W
Mr. Hill

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps have been taken to ease the position of bilateral road haulage permits between the United Kingdom and France and the United Kingdom and Germany.

Mr. Mulley

I am constantly urging the Governments of France and the Federal Republic of Germany to adopt more liberal policies towards British hauliers. The position with the Federal Republic has been eased by a recent increase from 1,100 to 2,000 road-rail permits. At meetings arranged for the autumn my officials will continue to press for substantial improvements in our bilateral quotas.
