HC Deb 31 July 1974 vol 878 c425W
Mr. Blaker

asked the Secretary of State for Trade (1) what are the latest estimates for investment by United Kingdom companies in EEC countries;

(2) what are the latest estimates for investment by companies from the other eight countries of the EEC in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Deakins

The latest available estimate for direct investment by United Kingdom companies in the other eight countries of the EEC is £241 million in 1972—excluding oil. The corresponding estimate for direct investment by companies of the other eight EEC countries in the United Kingdom is £39 million—excluding oil and insurance. Reasonably accurate estimates for 1973 will not be available until April 1975, but the information so far available suggests that investment by United Kingdom companies will probably be within the range of £330–410 million and investment by EEC companies within the range of £45–55 million.
