HC Deb 29 July 1974 vol 878 c82W
Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs for how long Great Britain has claimed sovereignty over the island of Rockall; and what challenge to British sovereignty has been made in that period.

Mr. Ennals

The island of Rockall was annexed to the Crown by proclamation in 1955, and was incorporated into Scotland by the Island of Rockall Act 1972. No formal challenge has been made to the British Government during this period concerning British sovereignty over the island, and no competing claim to sovereignty over the island has been asserted.
