HC Deb 17 July 1974 vol 877 cc201-2W
Mr. John Evans

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the estimated date of completion of the M62 from the M1 to the A1.

Mr. Carmichael

It was originally intended to open this section of the M62 on 6th August. It will now be opened simultaneously with the adjoining section to Whitley Bridge about three weeks later, in order to avoid an increased volume of traffic passing through Knottingley in the interim.

Mr. John Evans

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was (a) the original estimated date of completion of the M62, and (b) what is its latest estimated date of completion.

Mr. Carmichael

Part of the M62 is already open and further sections will be opened this year. The initial forecast date for the completion of the whole of the motorway was the mid-1970s. The entire length is now expected to be opened to traffic early in 1976.

Mr. Wall

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what are the expected completion dates of the M62 and M18 motorways to the city of Kingston upon Hull and of the Humber bridge.

Mr. Carmichael

The expected completion date of the M62 east of the Al is the end of 1975. My right hon. Friend hopes to publish proposals for the final section of the M18 (from Wadworth to Armthorpe) early in 1975; thereafter progress will depend on the satisfactory completion of the statutory procedures and the availability of funds. The Humber Bridge Board tell me that the bridge contract is due to be completed in the summer of 1977.
