HC Deb 16 July 1974 vol 877 cc74-5W
Mr. Eldon Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for the Social Services if, in view of the demand for British doctors and other medical specialists in overseas hospitals, she has made any assessment of the numbers of such personnel likely to resign from the National Health Service for the purpose of emigrating in the event of the Government's carrying out their policy of phasing out private practice.

Dr. Owen

No. Arrangements for private practice are only one part of the discussions in the Joint Working Party with the profession, intended to result in a new charter for hospital consultants which, I hope, will make health service work more and not less attractive to hospital doctors.
