asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will list the scales of pay for cooks employed by the National Health Service in each of the years 1955, 1960, 1965 1970 and 1974.

1. The rates of pay quoted are weekly.
2. Staff employed in London currently receive an additional London weighting of £2.40 per week.
3. Allowances of £2 per week under a threshold agreement are currently payable in addition.
4. There are higher rates of pay for head cooks.
5. Cooks who hold a cookery diploma recognised by the Ancillary Staffs Whitley Council are graded one pay group higher. This is equivalent to an additional £0.64 per week
