Mr. Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what proposals he has approved for new school buildings and school building improvements in the county of Cheshire.

The following major school building projects in the area of the new Cheshire local education authority received approval during 1973–74:

New Primary School Projects

  • Saughall County Infant.
  • Ellesmere Port, Stanlaw County Primary.
  • Knutsford, Bexton County Infant.
  • Penketh South County Infant.
  • Poulton-with-Fearnhead, St. Bridget's RC (aided) Primary.
  • Widnes, Lunts Heath County Primary.
  • Thelwall County Infant.
  • Runcorn, Palacefields County Infant.
  • Winsford, Over Hall County Junior.
  • Macclesfield, Broken Cross County Junior.
  • Elton County Junior.
  • Alsager, Cranberry County Junior.
  • Runcorn, Southgate County Infant.
  • Boughton Heath County Primary.
  • Crewe, Coppenhall Lane County Primary.

Primary School Improvement/Replacement Projects

  • Church Lawton Gate County Primary.
  • Crewe, Underwood West County Junior.
  • Macclesfield, Puss Bank County Infant.
  • Rode Heath County Primary.
  • Neston, St. Winefride's RC (aided) Primary.

Secondary School Projects

  • Upton County Secondary.
  • Sandbach County Secondary.

  • Culcheth County High.
  • Runcorn, St. Chad's RC (aided) Comprehensive.
  • Wilmslow, The Hough County Secondary.
  • Crewe, Middlewich Street County Comprehensive.
  • Nantwich and Acton County Grammar.
  • Chester Catholic High.
  • Chester, Queen's Park High.

Resources have yet to be allocated to local education authorities for major school building projects in 1974–75. It is for local education authorities to decide which minor works projects should be carried out within the limits of the resources allocated to them.

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he has now approved the proposal submitted by the Cheshire County Education Authority for a new secondary school to serve the Macclesfield area.
