HC Deb 04 July 1974 vol 876 c277W
Mr. Edge

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is now able to set out in more detail his proposals to democratise the boards of new town development corporations.

Mr. John Silkin

In reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Chorley (Mr. Rodgers) on 8th April 1974 I made it clear that, in making these appointments, we pay regard to the individual requirements of each town and, in so doing, appreciate the need as a general rule to increase the number of corporation members who are also elected members of the local authorities concerned. This policy remains unchanged.
