HC Deb 31 January 1974 vol 868 c152W
Mr. Cormack

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will take steps to ensure that local planning authorities notify every householder of the receipt of planning applications for permission to demolish, erect, extend or otherwise alter any building immediately adjacent to his home.

Mr. Eldon Griffiths

My right hon. and learned Friend is considering the requirements for publicity for planning applications in the light of recommendations made by Mr. George Dobry, QC, in his interm report on the development control system, particularly his proposal that all applications should receive some publicity—perhaps by means of a site notice. Meanwhile, under arrangements set out in Circular No. 71/73, and subject to statutory requirements in particular cases, it is for local planning authorities to consider whether to notify owners or occupiers of neighbouring property or to ask applicants to display a site notice.
