§ Mr. EyreAt the end of 1973 the number of conservation areas in England and Wales was 2,530. At the end of 1972 the number was 1,980. Information about conservation areas in Scotland is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland.

§ Mr. Sydney Chapmanasked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many buildings in conservation areas, other than listed buildings, have been made the subject of control to demolish under Sections 8 and 9 of the Town and Country Planning (Amendment) Act 1972 since that Act came into force.
§ Mr. Eyre6,965 buildings in England and Wales are subject to control under Section 8 of the Town and Country Planning (Amendment) Act 1972. This number includes 5,546 in respect of which directions have been confirmed by the appropriate Secretary of State and 1,419 which came under control immediately but which are awaiting confirmation.348W Section 9 applies only to Scotland and is therefore a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland.
