HC Deb 20 December 1974 vol 883 c745W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what is the total value of British investment in Tanzania including petroleum marketing and banking.

Mr. Deakins

Information is available only for the book value of direct investment excluding oil, banking and insurance. The latest figure relates to the end of 1971 and is £6.7 million. This figure was published in Table 35 of Business Monitor M4, Overseas Transactions, a copy of which is in the Library.

Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether British firms whose assets have been taken over by the Government of Tanzania have been permitted to repatriate compensation moneys.

Miss Joan Lestor

I have been asked to reply.

In cases where the payment of compensation for the expropriated assets of British firms has been approved by the Tanzanian Government, the repatriation of compensation moneys has been permitted.
