HC Deb 20 December 1974 vol 883 c731W
Mr. Weetch

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will extend the supplementary allowance rules to compensate kidney patients for loss of wages when their work is disrupted through having to travel long distances to a hospital which has a kidney machine.

Dr. Owen

No, but it would be open to such a patient to claim supplementary benefit in the normal way if, as a result of attendance at hospital, his resources were insufficient for his requirements by supplementary benefit standards.
