Mrs. Chalker

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what were the numbers of unemployed claimants receiving national assistance/supplementary benefit for each year since 1960 who were (a) claiming national insurance benefit and (b) totally dependent on national assistance/supplementary benefit.

Based upon 100 per cent. count of cases current in December up to 1965 and upon sample enquiries in November thereafter. Some of the recipients who were not entitled to unemployment benefit had other forms of income e.g. family allowance.
