HC Deb 19 December 1974 vol 883 c585W
Mr. Anthony Grant

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what is his estimate of the number of foreign tourists visiting Great Britain in 1974 to the latest convenient date and the value of their expenditure; and how this compares with the years 1970 to 1973, inclusive.

Mr. Deakins

The figures requested, based on the International Passenger Survey, are published in Tables 1 and 2 of the Business Monitor Series, M6, Overseas travel and tourism. The issue for the first quarter, 1974, gives figures for the years 1970 to 1973, for the quarters of 1973 and the first quarter of 1974. Information for the second quarter will be published in January. A preliminary estimate of expenditure by overseas visitors in the first three quarters of 1974, using information from the survey and other sources, is £624 million, an increase of 19 per cent, over the corresponding period of 1973.
