HC Deb 19 December 1974 vol 883 cc521-2W
Dr. Reginald Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what steps she is taking to ensure the carrying out of the undertakings given by petroleum companies in accordance with the Monopolies Commission's report on the petrol and garage trade.

Mr. Alan Williams

Particulars of the undertakings have been furnished to the Director General of Fair Trading under Schedule 11 to the Fair Trading Act 1973. It is accordingly his duty to keep under review the carrying out of the undertakings and to consider whether or not they are being fulfilled or need to be varied or superseded.

Dr. Reginald Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what steps she is taking to ensure that tenants and licensees of retail petrol stations are made aware of their rights in relation to the petrol wholesaling companies under the terms of the undertakings given to the Monopolies Commission in these matters.

Mr. Alan Williams

The undertakings have continued to receive publicity since they were given in 1966. Nevertheless I understand that, in reviewing the undertakings, the Director General of Fair Trading has very much in mind the aspect to which the hon. Member has drawn attention.
