Mr. Ted Fletcherasked the Secretary of State for Trade whether, in view of the possibility of large-scale redundancies in the footwear industry, he will now make a statement on the outcome of his consideration of whether to control shoe imports and reduce quotas from their present level.
§ Mr. DeakinsThe case made by the British Footwear Manufacturers' Association is being examined as a matter of urgency by my Department and the Department of Industry. I hope it will be possible to reach a decision on it very shortly.
