HC Deb 10 December 1974 vol 883 cc137-8W
Mr. Newens

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what increase in air traffic is envisaged at Stansted Airport over the course of the next five years as the result of the decision not to proceed with the development of the third London airport at Maplin.

Mr. Clinton Davis

Maplin airport would not have been available for about 10 years and it would not therefore have had any direct effect upon the level of traffic at Stansted Airport within the next five years.

Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what studies are taking place regarding the possible increased use of Stansted Airport.

Mr. Clinton Davis

Following the decision to abandon the Maplin airport project, my Department invited comments from local authorities and other organisations about the review document and the way in which future London area air traffic should be handled. We are now studying the comments received which include those concerning Stansted Airport.
