§ Mr. Spearingasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he can estimate the proportion of pigs and poultry kept in England and Wales that are fed on swill or other similar foods that otherwise might be wasted; and how the costs of such feed compares with that of cereal-based compounds.
§ Mr. BishopIt was estimated in 1973 that about 8 per cent. of pigs in England and Wales were fed on waste food. The proportion of swill-fed poultry is insignificant. Comparisons between the cost of swill and compound feeds would be misleading because of their different feed values.
