Mr. John Evans

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if he will list in the OFFICIAL REPORT the names of the organisations and bodies which have made representations to him requesting changes in the working of the Children and Young Persons Act 1969, and opposing any changes, respectively;

(2)if he will set up an official inquiry both into the working of the Children and Young Persons Act 1969 and into possible desirable changes in it;

(3)if he will list in the OFFICIAL REPORT the names of the magistrates' panel who have made representations to him commending the working of the Children and Young Persons Act 1969, and criticising it, respectively.

Since 1st January we have received representations expressing general concern about the Act from, among others, the Magistrates' Association, the Justices' Clerks' Society, the National Association of Head Teachers, the National Association of Probation Officers, the Professional Association of Head Teachers, the National Council of Women, the Welsh Secondary Schools' Association, the NSPCC, and the chairman or clerk of juvenile court magistrates' panels in Bradford, Liverpool, Halifax, Reading, Trafford, Huyton, Bolton, and Colchester.
