§ Mr. Rostasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what percentage savings in energy consumption he expects to achieve this year within his Department, including the police, fire services, prisons and all establishments over which he has responsibility; and what percentage savings he is budgeting for next year;
(2) what action he has taken to assist and advise establishments with which his Department is concerned to conserve energy.
§ Mr. Roy JenkinsMy right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment, who is responsible for the management of the Government Estate, expects 495W energy savings in that area to amount to 6 per cent. in 1974–75 and 7 per cent. in 1975–76. The staff of my Department have been advised of the measures that can be taken to conserve energy and have been reminded of the continuing need for efforts to that end.
I am taking steps to ensure that all police and fire authorities in England and Wales are fully aware of the importance of economy in this respect.
