Mr. Madel

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the total number of male and female job vacancies in the South Bedfordshire parliamentary constituency currently notified to his Department.

In November 1974, in the Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard employment office areas, which correspond broadly to the South Bedfordshire parliamentary constituency, 434 vacancies for males and 135 for females were held at

Notes:

1. In 1966 a revision was made to the industrial classification of some establishments. Estimates for 1966(a) and 1966(b) are based on the old and new classifications respectively.

2. Estimates of the numbers employed up to 1969(a) are based on the 1958 Standard Industrial Classification. Estimates from 1969(b) are based on the 1968 Standard Industrial Classification. Also, in 1969, better information was obtained on the regional distribution of persons employed in the distributive trades.

3. Estimates of employees in employment up to 1971(a) were based primarily on counts of national insurance cards. From 1971(b) estimates have been based on annual censuses of employment.

employment offices and 45 vacancies for males and 55 females were held at careers offices. The statistics relate only to vacancies notified to employment offices and careers offices and are not a measure of total vacancies.

In November 1974, 377 males and 101 females were unemployed in the Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard employment office areas which correspond broadly to the South Bedfordshire constituency.
