§ Mr. Ancramasked the Secretary of State for Energy what research projects into the use of tidal and sea power for the production of energy are in existence; and what are their findings up to the present time.
§ Mr. EadieResearch on the harnessing of tidal and sea power is largely confined to desk studies and these are being undertaken independently by universities, engineering consultants, the Central Electricity Generating Board and engineers within my Department. I am advised by my Department that on present indications these sources of energy are not likely to be economically competitive with alternatives which will be available. However, studies are continuing.
