HC Deb 03 April 1974 vol 871 c387W
101. Mrs Winifred Ewing

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what investigation he is making or proposes to make into dangers of pollution arising from oil extraction from the North Sea.

Mr. Strang

I fully appreciate the importance of avoiding pollution from off-shore oil operations and it is one of the aspects my Department bears continually in mind in making rules and authorising development. The best safeguard against it lies in the use of high standards of technology and working methods, and regulations made by my Department will ensure that these high standards are observed.
