HC Deb 18 July 1973 vol 860 c138W
Mr. Madel

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment on how many days in the past two years one or more lanes of the Ml from the North Bedfordshire border to London has been closed for repairs.

Mr. Speed

One or more lanes on sections of the Ml from the North Bedfordshire border to Hendon have been closed during the past two years for varying periods on 1,026 occasions.

The records do not distinguish between the reasons for closures which include routine recurring operations for repair and/or maintenance. Reasons for other closures which are unlikely to recur were the installation of safety barriers and of lighting and strengthening work on box girder bridges. The figure does not include closures due to accidents.
