HC Deb 09 July 1973 vol 859 cc262-3W
Mr. R. C. Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what proportion of foreign heavy lorries he estimates is weighed and checked at United Kingdom ports before being allowed to travel on United Kingdom roads; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Speed

At present about 4 per cent. We hope to increase this to about 10 per cent. by the end of the year as additional enforcement staff now being recruited take up post. More concentrated checks will be authorised from time to time.
